The Nature Conservancy India announces new Managing Director

Dr Annapurna Vancheswaran has been appointed as the new Managing Director of The Nature Conservancy’s India Program. She commences her new role at TNC India today.

Dr Vancheswaran has more than 30 years’ experience associated with The Energy and Resources Institute (TERI) – one of the most prestigious research institutes on the Indian subcontinent. Since 2015 she has been TERI’s Senior Director of Sustainable Development Outreach.

She has significant experience in developing and executing successful strategies for sustainable development and climate change; in building strategic partnerships; and fundraising.

“I’m very excited to be joining TNC India’s dynamic and highly skilled team dedicated to addressing crucial environmental challenges facing India today,” Annapurna said.

“The Nature Conservancy is a leader in the international movement to create a world where people and nature can thrive. I’m looking forward to leading TNC India’s contribution to tackling climate change and protecting and restoring critical ecosystems as well as combatting the current COVID-induced challenges in these spheres.”

The Nature Conservancy’s India Advisory Board Chair, Mr Hemendra Kothari welcomed Annapurna to the role.

“Dr Vancheswaran’s experience in sustainable development, strategic outreach and brand development will prove great assets for our important work in India,” Mr Kothari said.

“Along with her management skills and values, she has demonstrated that she is ideally placed to lead our important work for India’s people and nature.”

Besides her passion for nurturing young minds, especially the less privileged, she likes to travel to new places and meet new people as she strongly believes that personal growth is a culmination of your experiences and the people you meet. When at leisure she enjoys cooking vegetarian food.

Annapurna has a Bachelor of Science in physics, chemistry and maths; an MBA; and a PhD in Social Responsibility from the Indian Institute of Technology, New Delhi.

Once the pandemic situation allows it to reopen, Annapurna will work from our Indian head office in New Delhi.
