Biography
Nikunj is a conservation biologist and spatial ecologist with over 13 years of experience in biodiversity conservation, ecological research, geospatial analysis, and conservation technology in India.
At The Nature Conservancy, Nikunj supports the design and implementation of monitoring, evaluation, and learning systems across conservation programs. He also serves as a technical lead in adapting global conservation data platforms and tools to Indian ecological and social contexts.
He holds a Master’s degree in Zoology with specialization in Avian and Wildlife Biology from The Maharaja Sayajirao University of Baroda.
His career spans leading institutions such as the Foundation for Ecological Security (FES), Wildlife Institute of India (WII), Sálim Ali Centre for Ornithology and Natural History (SACON), and GIZ-supported programmes. His fieldwork covers tiger monitoring, crane ecology, wetland conservation, forest restoration, and community-based initiatives.
Passionate about science communication and community engagement, he founded the Dangs Bird Festival in Gujarat to promote bird conservation and nature-based livelihoods. His interests include spatial ecology, biodiversity monitoring, and ecological restoration.
